Challenge Quilt Day One

Since I have also challenged myself to use what I have and not go shopping, it took me a while to find fabrics that would work. I was surprised at how many I did eventually find. I used the front and back of one fabric which I always find is fun to do. Can you find it?

I added the pink first and realized that instead of just two lines of pink, I should have added three. Then I had an aha moment and realized that I could turn pieces around (top become the bottom) which I did. I also cut off the pieces where I moved things up or down and added them back into the quilt. I definitely think it is getting more interesting but certainly far from finished. The floral fabric (detail) is also really bothering me so I think I'm going to tea dye it and see what happens. So what do you think of the quilt so far?

  1. Karen, I love how this piece has turned out! I also have Rayna's book, and am chomping on the bit
to create something from some UFO I have in a box somewhere. Finished a piece today for the gallery, one more large commitment & I can play also. You are amazing with all that you accomplish. hugs, vivian

  4. It is already quite interesting! What a scary thing to slice on purpose. I've done this accidentally but will have to screw up my courage. Keep at it.

  5. I love what you've done here Karen! I think that my preference would be the horizontal format.
    Wonderful ! As usual.

  6. I can't believe what a difference you made in just one day, Karen! I am loving this, so far -- it's so free-spirited. Isn't it great when the light bulb goes on and you realize you can cut it again and add what you want? With this way of working, you're the one who makes the rules - LOL!

  7. I really love what you are doing with this top!! I especially like the look of your changes from a distance, Karen. In fact, I didn't realize the fabric you said you might "coffee dye" needed any "tanning". The piece probably looks very different in person when it has lots of light on it. I see something like this and I want to jump in too, but already have too many irons in the fire right now! Just got my copy of your new book! YEA!!!!! thank you so much for the opportunity to share one of my quilts and its story with the larger world!!
