I actually finished this quilt earlier in the week and was letting rest to see if I felt it was done. I'm declaring it just that. I actually began quilting it last night and had to make myself quit at one this morning. I was on a roll but boy do my shoulders hurt. Hope to finish it today! I used the challenge fabric eleven times! So I am pleased. My husband, Tom, doesn't usually like my work so I am happy to report that he loves the pieces I've made this month. I find that very interesting.
On a different and yet similar note, I have gotten emails from both participants in the challenge and others either apologizing for calling the fabric "ugly" or asking if I am upset because people are calling the challenge fabric "ugly." First, I don't find the challenge fabric ugly. It's simply a piece of vintage fabric and I have memories of curtains made with similar fabric hanging in my grandmother's house. Maybe that is why I held on to the fabric when I got rid of others. That said, I take no offense when someone calls it "ugly." Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I also know calling it ugly does not reflect on me. I am just happy that I figured out a fun way to use the fabric. I truly cannot wait to see what everyone does with it. So worry less, play more!
Karen - your quilt is beautiful! Your work is very inspiring. Please include me in your next fabric challenge. Just love it.
ReplyDeleteDiane, You are very kind. Next challenge, you bet! Hugs, Karen
DeleteWow, your piece is wonderful! I especially like those squares running across the top. Even though I called the fabric "ugly" I actually think it's sort of charming.
ReplyDeleteSherrie, Thanks! I love the squares running across the top too! It's my favorite part so you will be seeing it again soon! Hope you are having fun with the "ugly" fabric. Hugs, Karen
DeleteKaren, congratulations on getting your top done; I am nearly through with my top but have to delay for a good reason--sold four pieces to be used as awards by our Downtown Assn at an awards luncheon next week. Three were ready and am making the fourth so all will be more similar. Yeaaaaa. I'll post picture in a few days. Tell us the size of your finished piece.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! What are the dimensions of the finished quilt (please)?
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric, as it reminds me of my Grandma Ruby Porterfield. Whatever I end up with as a final quilt will be named "Ruby."
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is wonderful!! Can't wait to see it quilted.
I too love what you did at the top with the little squares. Did you make them for this project or were they leftovers? You said you used the fabric 11 times, I can ID 8. It's like playing Where's Waldo which I was never good at.

Louise, Thank you for your kind words. I made the squares for this project. It's something that simply popped into my head. If you counted the dark brown going around the square as one then you're right. I counted it as each individual piece. Can't wait to see more of yours! Hugs, Karen
DeleteWOW All I can say is I wish I had thought of that! My progress is not so sucessful at this point. Just updated my blog, hopping for some help.

Karen, its fantastic. I agree---those dancing square across the top really make this piece sing. Think I may want to play next time you do this.
