Beatriz's Quilt

I think the piecing of the background, which did take forever, helped Beatriz decide to do a lot of handwork with this piece. I am so proud of her. She has caught the quilting bug in a big and wonderful way. She stays very focused in class and I cannot wait to see what she does next.

  1. Sometimes nothing else will do but to piece the background, and this really works well. I love the sacred heart as the center of the flower, and the printed pieces used in the context of the pieced work! Excellent!

  2. What a touching piece. Sometimes things do happen that just make our heart bleed. And sunflower as a backdroup for the bleeding heart is especially effective on the purple beautifully pieced background...and the Lord's Prayer and little girl praying are wonderful.

  3. Masterful use of textures to fill the space and create a background for the story that is being told. Very effective and moving.

  4. Beatriz, you are communicating visually in a powerful way. You are getting the word out. We are all a sisterhood, and must join together to stop atrocities and violence towards women. Rosemary

  6. A very concise and powerful work. I like the rays of the sun, and the sense of movement they give to this elegant and meaningful piece.

  7. Terrific detail, and excellent use of colour. Beatriz has very skilfully and powerfully used symbolism to express her message. More Great Stuff!

  8. Beatriz...

Your quilt is touching in so many ways...I look into your quilt's message with a new set of eyes this morning - the small girl pulled me there, and though I cannot read your text, the sun shining on the lovely sunflower and feeling your special love of our earth is a definitive message. Use you stitches well to continue communicating with us all.
