Soccoro's New Quilt

I have the great privilege to spend time with an amazing group of women twice a month at the National Museum of Mexican Art. Our exhibit "Quilt Me A Story" was taken down on June 1. The great news is Socorro's quilt sold! We have begun making new quilts based on the "Women of Juarez." I thought I would spend the next few days sharing some of the works in progress from the group starting with the now famous and wonderful Socorro. Salute!

  1. This quilt is so beautiful, but the woman weeping (that's what I see) is so sad.

  3. Wow-these are beautiful! As art pieces these are very good. There's good composition, color/fabric selection and technique in all of them. As cathartic works--they are Stunning. Emotional and heartfelt and perfect.

  4. Wonderful compostion and very strong emotional content. It reminds me a bit of Georgia O'Keeffe's cross paintings.

  5. These are all very evocative of the difficult lives of these women and their environment, with no loss of femininity. Each one tugs at my heart.

  8. Soccoro...

Thank you for sharing your quilt with us... we are feeling the pain that all women in your country feel as they think of their friends and family who have suffered indignities and loss of life. Please know that your quilt helps us all understand. Expression in a quilt is a very poignant and meaningful way to share your thoughts.

  10. This quilt speaks to me on a very emotional basis as I feel the pull of the imperfect world all around me as I grieve for the injustice of pain and suffering in our world and yet the personal pull to achieve goodness in life...the woman at the cross says it all.
