Maria's New Quilt

This is Marie's second quilt and once again showcases her love of embroidery. Remember all of these quilts are dealing with the rape, torture and murder of the women of Juarez, Mexico. Not an easy subject matter to express and yet they are all doing a great job.

  1. These are folk art at its finest, with the emphasis on "art". It is obvious that the artists are speaking with authority and authenticity. These are powerful stories that need to be told, and I commend them for their clear vision and fearless depictions. I look forward to seeing more of these quilts.

  3. The quilt is a powerful statement. The blue sun (that's what I see) further conveys the message.

  6. Using a retablo as the central focus of this quilt is very powerful. Lots of imagery in this quilt. It could be a study for several larger works. Really compelling.

  10. Maria...
Carrying the emotion of your heart and soul into your work speaks volumes to those of us who see your quilts. Your skill as a designer is growing and is powerful in "saying" what YOU want to covey to your viewer.
