This is Marie's second quilt and once again showcases her love of embroidery. Remember all of these quilts are dealing with the rape, torture and murder of the women of Juarez, Mexico. Not an easy subject matter to express and yet they are all doing a great job.
These are folk art at its finest, with the emphasis on "art". It is obvious that the artists are speaking with authority and authenticity. These are powerful stories that need to be told, and I commend them for their clear vision and fearless depictions. I look forward to seeing more of these quilts.
ReplyDeleteWow, it is so beautiful, I love the li'l buildings.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is a powerful statement. The blue sun (that's what I see) further conveys the message.
ReplyDeleteI love how the piece draws on the traditional folk art pieces, the nicho, etc. I too love the blue sun!
ReplyDeleteThis piece reminds me of wonderful wall murals, it is so large in its scope in such a small piece. Powerful.
ReplyDeleteUsing a retablo as the central focus of this quilt is very powerful. Lots of imagery in this quilt. It could be a study for several larger works. Really compelling.
ReplyDeleteI especially love the embroidered details: the tears falling from the moon's eyes, the flowers, the face, the cross, etc. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI love the embroidery. Simple, poignant, with a story. This is terrific work!
ReplyDeleteTerrific attention to detail and many aspects of this quilt focus one on the compelling message behind the quilt...each of the aspects of this quilt integrate well with one another...very well done!!
ReplyDeleteMaria...
ReplyDeleteCarrying the emotion of your heart and soul into your work speaks volumes to those of us who see your quilts. Your skill as a designer is growing and is powerful in "saying" what YOU want to covey to your viewer.
The embroidery on this piece is beautiful. It shows a true love of the craft.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! The images tell the story well and an excellent use of color to evoke emotion (I love the blue sphere) and the embroidery is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMaria, has hecho una obra muy hermosa que nos toca el corazon a pesar de ser sobre un tema tan doloroso e importante. Gracias por tu trabajo y mucha suerte!
