Goddess Doll

It has been a long time since I made a doll. When the call went out for an international goddess doll exchange in Needle Queen's group on the Milliande Art Community for Women Ning site. I decided to answer the call. While I am not an active member, I do enjoy the women there and occasionally join in on swaps mostly because I can have contact with women creating in other countries. 

Anyway, here is my first attempt a making a goddess doll. I opted to create my own pattern. Decided I didn't like the dolls that had the bottom come to a point. I did like the ones that had the arms and hands joined so it was easy to hang. The "crown" was made by Katie Teesdale, a delightful and highly talented young woman. Katie is an intern at ClaySpace which is where we met.  Katie created the piece to be a necklace, I thought, "Crown!" I cannot tell you how happy I was that my intended use worked especially since I forgot to plan for it. Where was my brain? My son, Nathaniel, thinks I need to keep her and make another one for the trade. I was touched. He is definitely becoming sweeter and kinder with age. Another goddess doll is definitely going to be made. It was good to just play and have fun!

Sorry I forgot! She is 11 inches tall.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Art Journal Adventures

Today Louise Kirby's incredible journal arrived in the mail. She is part of the Journal Swap through Milliande's Ning Group. It's exciting to me to have two Australian artists, Helen Lindton is the other person, sharing this journey. We have actually started a blog called The Sisterhood of the Traveling Art Journal to document the journey and artistic process of our journals. They have certainly set a pretty high bar.  Louise has chosen a nature theme and I can't wait to get started! Being in these kinds of exchanges always helps me to grow as a person and an artist. It also helps me overcome those "I'm not good enough moments." Now I have to decide to I do feathers, crows, nests, trees...

St. Nino and A Journal Exchange

I'm in an international journal exchange through the Milliande Art Community for Women. I am in a group with two other artists who both happen to be in Australia. I love being in exchanges with artist from other countries. Our journals needed to be around 6 x 8 inches to get mailing costs reasonable. I got into the exchange at the last minute so I used a store bought journal and simply created a cloth cover for it. We could decide on a theme or go no theme.

My first journal is from Helen Lindton who is a master at Coptic makers and faces. Her theme is "Icons." Yikes! Of course, this is exactly why I choose to be in these kinds of situations. They make me grow. I decided to do St. Nino who caused the country of Georgia to convert to Christianity. Here is what I have put together so far. It doesn't seems finished to me. Suggestions are welcomed!

Milliande Art Comminity for Women Bead Exchange

I recently joined the Milliande Art Community for Women which has a fiber group. I'm finding it to be a wonderful community and even more so since a fiber bead exchange was announced. I love making fiber beads. They are quite addicting and sinfully satisfying. Here are a few that I've made. Some are for the exchange (groups of 5 all the same size) and some were just for fun. This has also helped me to relax. My dad was in the ICU and we're dealing with water damage to our house. No fun at all.
