Life Had Other Plans

I had planned to start a couple of new projects on Monday, but returning home from picking up by piece at the Burning Bush Gallery, I discovered that my cat of more than 20 years, E.G. (named after one of my favorite authors- Ellen Gilchrist) had decided to die. By the time I found her, she had slipped thankfully into a coma. I sat with her until she drew her last breath. While it was and still is extremely sad, I am glad she died at home. She hated car rides and really hated the vet. I knew it was coming because after all she was old and had been going downhill for quite a while. She lived far long than I had ever thought possible especially considering she was feral. The grieving continues and I am ready to start my new projects that I will be sharing soon. How have you coped with the loss of a pet?

  1. So sorry for your loss, my 17 year old cat passed 8 years ago, it took me quite awhile to grieve that loss. Hurt so much was not sure I would get another cat after having cats for almost 50 years, but eventually got 2 more, one has passed the other is growing old with me.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss. Cats are great company. I had a Bermeise cat. She had thyroid issues for a while. She was with me for almost 18 years before I had to put her down. I also had thyroid issues and my ex-husband had throat cancer. Shadow died because she also had throat cancer. You will me your cat forever but you will also have those cherished memories of her. Cats are just like family and they all will be missed so much.

  3. I am saddened by and understand the loss of your E G kitty. Our animals become like our family, whom we love dearly and mourn sadly. With time your heart will heal and you can remember E G without tears and with smiles.

  4. My old buddy left me 2 years ago and I'm still grieving. We never get over the loss of a friend. I took in a feral kitty and she has helped fill the void. Another life saved is always a good thing.

  5. It takes my husband and I a LONG time to grieve one of our family pets. We have lost three dogs, two cats and two birds over the life of our 32 year marriage. We waited nine years after losing our last dog to get a new one. Our cats will not be replaced. Our daughter has one cat and we can get our cat fixes from her siamese cat. Just cope the best way you can. Do not listen to people who want you to grieve or stop grieving to a particular time frame. Do not let anyone make you feel bad for grieving an animal. Our hearts go out to you.
