When I saw the call for "I'm Not Crazy," I knew I had to create a piece. I won't know until June 27th if my work was accepted. It doesn't matter if it is accepted or not. This piece has been waiting to be made for a long time. I call it "Glimpses of the Dark Angel." It's 23.5" w by 31" h. The toughest part was writing an artist statement that could not exceed 25 words. I'm a concise writer but this was tough.
"Thomas Mann said that depression had its own angel with
unique insights and a special vision. It took me thirty years to embrace his
wisdom."
I am really happy with this piece and how I took something inside my head and made it reality.
Promise to review the incredible Judy's Challenge Fabric quilts soon. I am waiting on photographs. You won't be disappointed!
Karen, this piece is gorgeous! It reminds me of Chagall.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I didn't see it until you pointed it out. Hugs, Karen
DeleteKaren -- This piece is beautiful. Yes, depression is a dark angel, although I had never thought of it that way before.
ReplyDeleteEven when I am depressed, I remain an optimist. Thanks for liking my piece. Hugs, Karen
DeleteKaren - I love that you portrayed this subject through a quilt. The emotions we feel while we create transcend our pieces into powerful messages. This is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteKaren...I super love this piece! The lightness of the art, the quiet colorway, all speaking about the darkness of depression - very wonderful to my eyes and my spirit. I have a piece sketched, fabric gathered, some cut out, yet not possible for it to totally fall together in time to enter with other commitments first in line....but the doing was truly important for me. It will be a nice piece to have in the gallery of my web site when it flies in January.
ReplyDeleteAs always, Karen, I appreciate seeing your work and reading the words you craft so well.
Namaste,
Kristin
I was a little worried about the color so your liking it is appreciated.Let me know when your piece is completed! Thanks. Hugs, Karen
DeleteThis is a wonderful piece, Karen.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Karen
DeleteYes, it does look very much like Chagall. I think it should make it in... Great piece.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your confidence. We shall see what happens. For now I'm moving on to the next thing that needs to be finished! Hugs, Karen
