Imperfectly Perfect UFO
I dug out another UFO. I cannot remember when I made it, but it is more than 15 years old. It did not take long to realize why I did not finish it. I appliqued one of the funky leaves the wrong way. Ugh. I must say I did a nice job with the applique so I do think this is worth finishing. The question is how. I do not want to take the leaf off and redo it. I'm afraid the fabric will not hold up and I no longer have any of the fabrics. The blocks are not square but 10.5 " by 11." Originally I was going to make it into the square arrangement. I could put them in a row (second photo). Thoughts?
Thanks to everyone who wrote me and said that they were going to embrace being "imperfectly perfect"! You made my day.

It's wasn't obvious to me which is the wrong one. Just go for it and contiue. you might be more satisified with the results with this design variation. It gives some where for the eyes to travela and wonder.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It was so nice that the mistake wasn't obvious.
DeleteI have to admit to being challenged when I first looked at it ( to find the imperfect one). I rather like the "imperfectness" of it. Leaves don't fall or flutter perfectly anyway.
ReplyDeletehugs.
DeleteSash it with something "off the wall". Sew it up. It has personality and character. It was made by a real person, not a machine. Gerald Roy collected these quilts that had a "sign of the quiltmaker" in them.
ReplyDeleteBuffy, thanks for giving me more food for thought. Off to see what sashing fabric might work. Hugs.
DeleteI used the phrase perfectly imperfect a lot ... so your posts have really grabbed my eye and have me thinking about the difference between your imperfectly perfect and my perfectly imperfect. Either way, I think letting go of perfectionism allows us to learn. Few people are perfect the first time they attempt something new. I've adopted the attitude, too, that every piece is just practice for the ones that follow.
ReplyDeleteFWIW, I like your odd leaf and find the UFO perfectly imperfect :-)
I would love to hear more about your perfectly imperfect! And thanks for your comments. Hugs.
DeleteAnd just what did you say was wrong here? Uniformity, symmetry, perfection---highly over rated! Individuality is at a premium and should be celebrated. Embrace it and go with it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Hugs, Karen
DeleteI think they look fabulous. Why dont you get a back ground fabric that will really showcase and make these pop off then sew then at a angel instead of in a straight line. Very modern. And it wasn't even noticeable that one was in the opposite direction. So I think they all look fabulous or you could just turn them into a set of pillows.
